oh hello! Welcome to Greens, Eggs, and Yams, a spot to share the health-focused plant based gluten-free recipes that I’ve created in my kitchen. My name is Robin and I hope you find these recipes fun and ever so tasty for you to try in your own space.
Roughly ten years ago, I embarked on a gluten-free journey AND became vegan (after reading The Food Revolution and seeing a number of documentaries). Although I needed and wanted to make these dietary changes, I struggled quite a lot with what to eat. Cooking/baking has always been a huge interest of mine, so I knew with trial and LOTS of errors I would have to take on the challenge of experimenting in the kitchen. I knew that the positive effects of these health changes completely made up for any inconveniences, and it was important to listen to WHAT my body needed. Seven years later, I have some classics that I have been able to modify to suit my diet. I’ve had a lot of failed attempts in the kitchen, which have ended with me crying on the floor, and my husband watching with shock and confusion. Although I won’t deny that some of my creations still fail, I now think of it as a new challenge and to learn from what doesn’t work. I focus on eating whole foods and sticking to a plant-based diet. Although I am not celiac and over the last year, I have incorporated some spelt into my diet, I definitely have a bit of a love-hate relationship with gluten, so, for the most part, all my recipes will be gluten free.
I am married to my sweet husband Adam, and we live in Kelowna BC. Adam tests all my recipes and although he is not a vegetarian and claims to be gluten plus, he is the best recipe tester because I know if he likes it, most people will. You’ll notice in most of my blog posts I say if it is Picky Husband Approved, and that is simply to let you know if my rather particular husband gave the recipe two thumbs up.
My cooking/baking assistant is my lovable, chatty orange tabby cat, Pip. You’ll be sure to see him in my blog posts as he is very nosy and likes to be involved with everything. But I don’t mind his curious nature because I think he’s pretty great, and I’m quite obsessed with him. I typically share my smoothies with him, and make him dance in the kitchen with me!
